The construction out on Saboga has been progressing a lot slower than we would like. Some restructuring of the responsibilities has freed Armel up from all of the day-to-day tasks of managing the construction along with all the marketing and other duties he has to take care of. There is now a dedicated, full-time construction manager, and the pace of construction has increased noticably.
These pictures were taken in September/October , 2011. Several of the houses are nearing completion. Once these are done, maybe they can get started on building ours.
We were last out on the island back in March, and we can see definite progress since then. One problem is that they have been working on 11-12 houses simultaneously, rather than concentrating on finishing 2-3 houses. I think if they could get just one house completed, they would have a nice model home they could use to show people exactly what the rest of the development is going to look like. I’m sure that would help the sales effort. It’s a lot harder to try and visualize what something might look like from blueprints and half-finished foundations. It’s much better to be able to put your hands on it and see it and feel it.
At any rate, the current economic situation, though it seems to have affected the pace of the construction, has at least not brought it to a total halt.
We’re going back in January, 2012 to start the application process for obtaining our pensionado visas. Hopefully at least one house will be complete by then. Keeping our fingers crossed.
